Early 2006

Planned Peaceful Protest with candle-lighting to demand justice for Jessica Lal is organised by REX Karmaveer Founders.

IMPACT & OUTCOME

People Power in the world’s largest democracy was demonstrated when people came out on the streets and demanded for justice.
Manu Sharma, the man who killed Jessica Lal, who was acquitted by the judiciary, was retried and imprisoned after a PEACEFUL PUBLIC PROTEST.
This demonstrated and proved THE POWER OF ONE and the POWER OF A SIMPLE IDEA FOR ACTION
This also proved that Together as ONE we can RIGHT every WRONG.
NDTV, as our partner joined the fight and we began a huge online candle lighting pledge movement.
“It is better to light a candle, than to curse the darkness”, our REX Karmaveer motto is tested and adopted and proves its immense potential.

The Founders of iCONGO and REX Karmaveer trigger the candlelight vigil to ensure justice for Jessica Lal, a young girl who was murdered and her killers were acquitted because of their power and political clout.

A SMS by the founders of iCONGO and REX to a few hundred people goes viral (Yes this happened in an era when there was no Facebook or WhatsApp) and a huge candlelight vigil is organized to demand justice.

Jessica Lal’s sister Sabrina Lal and other victims of the system, like Neelam Katara, Neelima Krishnamurthy and others, who are fighting for justice are awarded at the first REX Karmaveer awards organized in partnership with NDTV and BIG FM.
